The series picks books out of order. Season 1 is the first novel, Killing Floor (1997). Season 2 jumps to the eleventh, Bad Luck and Trouble (2007), and brings back Reacher's 110th unit. Season 3 adapts the seventh, Persuader (2003), with Xavier Quinn as the enemy from Reacher's army years. Season 4 adapts the thirteenth, Gone Tomorrow (2009), set in Philadelphia instead of New York. Season 5 is based on the twentieth novel, Make Me (2015); Alan Ritchson said Die Trying had been considered before.
